2004 Quinta do Ameal Loureiro Vinho Verde
Made at Pedro Araujo's jewel of an estate in Vinho Verde, this delightfully refreshing, delicate white is made entirely from the Loureiro grape. It's crisp, vivacious and citrus-fruity, with good acidity and a hint of apricot.
2002 Esporao Reserva, Alentejo
The wines of the Alentejo certainly don't lack flavour or ripeness. This full-bodied blend of Trincadeira, Aragonez, Cabernet Sauvignon and Alicante is fleshy, spicy and attractively oaked, with a core of ripe raspberry fruit.
2001 Covela Tinto Colheita Seleccionada
Only a few miles from the Douro river, Nuno Araujo is making some of the most modern reds in Portugal, typified by this elegant, ageworthy, capsicum-scented red.
2003 Quinta do Vallado Douro Reserva
This concentrated, textured Douro red would challenge Barca Velha in a blind tasting. Plums and strawberries are the dominant flavours, underpinned by oak and fine-grained tannins.
